The Best Part of My Day
The day began in the absolute worst possible way; with my alarm going off at 5:30 am, just as I had set it for the previous night. What was I thinking? The loud beeping was as obnoxious as hearing fingernails on a blackboard, or listening to Joe Biden discuss morals, or Donald Trump discuss humility.
As I drove to west Fort Worth, I never realized there were so many cars on the road at 6:15 am! Why? Are they lost, or possibly sleep driving? Oh well, I joined the group for this one day, determined to not make it a habit. I much prefer the late hours of the night when the truly sane people get things done.
But I arrived at church for the 6:30 men’s bible study, and met several men I didn’t know. We had a great study and discussion, and I had extended conversations with a couple of men after the study had ended. I always enjoy being able to encourage men to follow Christ. That is one of the special things in my life that makes me feel really alive. As Christians, we are called to be life and give life, and we find that giving life actually brings more life. Amazing how that works.
I then headed to Granbury, where I attended two of our company’s real estate closings. One was a property in the $350,000 range, and the other in the $550,000 range. These two closings will enable us to keep Railhead ribs on the table once in a while, for which I am very grateful.
I headed back to Aledo, where I stopped by the post office, and picked up a signed lease from a tenant who is renewing her lease with us, at a higher rate, and for another year! Again, more ribs! (You really have to try Railhead ribs if you are in the Ft. Worth or Willow Park areas!)
Then I received a call from a buyer wanting to view a $450,000 home in Granbury, so I met with her in hopes that she would eventually become a “rib provider” as well. That verdict is still out on that.
On top of that, I got to eat dinner at home, with my wife and my two daughters. It is always special when we are able to get together, even though their husbands were not available at this time. There’s just nothing like having your kids and their spouses back home again.
But then came the very best part of my day; I got to hold my 5 day old, second grandson for an hour on the couch! We didn’t talk, although I did get a bunch of “I love you’s” in. He actually slept through them all. He didn’t even try to communicate with his GPops. I barely even saw his eyes. I sat. He laid. We bonded. My emotions welled up and tears filled my eyes as I recalled how many times I had prayed for this little guy while in his mother’s womb. Many times, I had asked God to bring him safely into this world, and give him a heart that loves Jesus, and loves people. And as I sat there holding this bundle of the goodness of God in my arms, my joy came streaming through my eyes as an expression of gratitude for His goodness, not only His provision, but of the goodness of God Himself! This little boy reminded me again of my awesome Father’s love and blessings in life. THIS was the very best part of my day!
