Somebody Dance!

(This was written after attending my high school basketball friend's funeral. At the end, there was a black lady dancing with a tambourine.)

It had been 30 years

Since we last spoke

But she must have known him better

As she danced as my heart broke

But there’s joy in tears

There’s rejoicing in pain

When one knows Christ

Death is forever gain

Whenever my time comes

Don’t fret over a lost chance

Just drop my shell in the ground

Then stand up and dance!

I have lived, laughed, and loved

I have fought the trance

I have sought my God with passion

Please, somebody dance!

I have longed for His presence

I have had my glance

I have seen my King

Please, somebody dance!

I sought to encourage

I sought to advance

I sought to empower

Please, somebody dance!

Now I see His face clearly

Now I fall in a trance

Now I leap and prance

Please, dance, dance, dance!
